Waiter pouring rumRum is a distilled beverage created from sugarcane byproducts such as molasses and sugarcane juice.
This is done by the process of fermentation of the mash and distillation of the alcohol. The distillate is then aged in oak and other casks. Most rum is produced near the Caribbean and in Guyana, South America. Rum is produced in several types.

Light rums are used in mixed drinks while darker rums are used in cooking as well as in cocktails.

Premium types of rum are designed to be used on the rocks or “straight up”.
